"The Best Sunday Carvery I Have Had, Anywhere..."

Upon entering the Owl on a very pleasant sunday afternoon, I was first taken back by how busy it was. There was not a seat in the restaurant and I this point I could see myself ordering in a curry or something. I was quickly and pleasantly greeted by a young waitress who advised me there was about a half hour wait for a table, which may have seemed like a problem were it not for the range of guest ales on display... The one which instantly took my fancy was the unusually titled "Blackberry Cascade" which the seemingly well informed bar man told me was a summer version of Saltaire Brewery's multi-award winning "Cascade Pale Ale", which itself is a rather nice brew!!

Anyway, the ale was top notch - as good as any pint I've had in any pub in Leeds. The barman then gave me the run down of food prices (£8.50 for a two-course carvery which included a desert, £5.50 for pensioners, and £4.45 for a sandwich using the carvery meats). They also do salads using the carvery meats and the price of these, I was told, would vary. After finishing my pint I moved onto the more quaffable "Copper Dragon Best Bitter" which again was just fantastic. One thing which was particularly nice about the ale in the Owl was that it was very cold, indicating a well kept cellar. After taking a sip my wife, two kids and I were directed to a table in the conservatory which would have easily seated one more... I paid for the meals after which I was given a ticket to present the Chef on the carvery.

He was a very polite young man who served us our meat, Yorkshire puddings and roasted potatoes, after which we helped ourselves to a wide selection of fresh vegetables. Everything was absolutely beautiful, from the cauliflower cheese bake, to the roasted courgettes, and even the gravy was to die for... it had little bits of meat in it which said to me it was made the old-fashioned way. While we are on the subject of old fashioned, they even had dripping on bread and proper pork crunch on the bar! Marvellous! I would highly recommend a visit to the Sunday Carvery at the Owl, and I myself am going to pop down on a weekday evening to sample something off the normal menu...
